Playing
How does Purzel work?
Drag pieces from the toy box onto the 8×8 board. Five connected blocks of one color, or a full row or column, clear away. Then everything above falls down – if that forms new groups, it continues as a cascade. There is no time pressure.
What is a cascade, and a tumble rain?
When the falling blocks clear something again, that is a cascade; every step scores more. Three or more steps in a row make a tumble rain – worth 2 marbles in endless and zen.
What does the streak do?
Clear on several moves in a row to build a streak: from the second move your points count double, then triple – up to ×8. Three moves without a clear end the streak. The plaque at the top right of the board shows how many moves you have left.
What is the holding slot for?
The right compartment of the box keeps one piece for later. Drag a piece in; if one is already there, the two swap places.
What do the joker and the blast block do?
The joker with the colorful dots matches any color – if it is part of a group, that whole color disappears from the board. The blast block with the glowing crack also clears everything in the 3×3 square around it, in chains, too.
Modes
When is there a new daily puzzle?
Every day at midnight (local time) – with a fixed board and 20 pieces in a fixed order, the same for everyone. You can play it once a day and share your result as an emoji grid. Play on several days in a row and your daily streak grows.
What is different in zen?
There is no game over: when no piece fits, the box shakes out new pieces that do. The holding slot stays as it is. Zen points do not count towards your best score.
How does adventure work?
15 levels in three chapters. Each level has a fixed board, a fixed order of pieces and goals – like cracking all crates or clearing a number of hearts. Leftover pieces are worth 100 bonus points each; your score earns up to three stars. The next level opens as soon as you complete one.
What obstacles are there?
- Nailed blocks never fall – whatever rests on them stays put.
- Crates belong to no color. They crack when something clears right next to them, from a full row or a blast. Reinforced crates need two hits.
- Glass lies on the board and shatters when a block is cleared on top of it.
Can I pause a game?
Yes. Endless and zen games are put aside when you switch modes and can be resumed from the menu with “Continue” while the app stays open. A level is abandoned when you leave it; a daily puzzle you started counts as played when you leave.
Marbles, looks and helpers
How do I earn marbles?
- Adventure: 10 per newly earned star
- Daily puzzle: 10 to 30, depending on points
- Endless: 2 per tumble rain, up to 20 at the end
- Zen: 2 per tumble rain
Marbles come from playing only – never for real money.
How do I unlock the Candy look?
Tap your marbles at the top right of the menu to open the shop. The Candy look costs 200 marbles; after that you can switch between Wood and Candy any time.
What do the helpers do?
- Mallet (30 marbles): takes one block off the board – even a nailed one – or gives a crate one hit.
- Blast (60): clears everything in a 3×3 square.
- Shuffle (20): swaps the pieces in the box; the holding slot stays.
Helpers work in endless and adventure, not in the daily puzzle or zen. They do not count as a move: your streak stays, and no piece is used up in a level. To start, Purzel gives you 2 mallets and 1 blast.
What does “Stuck?” mean?
When nothing fits any more – or a level runs out of pieces before its goals are met – the round does not end right away if you have a helper or can afford one. The helper bar lights up; “End round” finishes the round.
Leaderboards and reminder
How do the leaderboards work?
Purzel uses Apple’s Game Center. When you are signed in to Game Center on your iPhone, the app reports your endless best score, your adventure stars and your daily puzzle points. Open the leaderboards via “Leaderboards” at the bottom of the menu. The daily leaderboard starts fresh every day.
I can’t see any leaderboards.
Sign in under “Game Center” in your iPhone settings and check that Game Center is allowed for Purzel. Without an internet connection, scores are sent once you are back online and open the app.
How do I set up the daily puzzle reminder?
Settings → “Daily puzzle reminder”. Choose 8:00 AM, 12:30 PM or 7:00 PM. The reminder only comes if you haven’t played that day’s puzzle yet. If none arrives, allow notifications for Purzel in your iPhone settings.
Settings and technical
Why is there no sound?
Purzel respects your iPhone’s silent switch – when it is set to silent, the app stays quiet. You can also turn sound off at the top right of the game and in the settings. Music from other apps keeps playing while you play.
What does “Reduce motion” do?
No shaking of the screen or the box, no slow motion after big cascades, no flying blocks – they burst in place instead. The tumbling stays because it is part of the game. On first launch Purzel follows your device’s setting.
How do I change the language?
Purzel speaks English and German and follows your device language. You can also pick a language in the settings.
Is my progress saved?
Your progress – best scores, marbles, stars, looks, helpers and settings – is stored on your device only. It is part of your iCloud or device backup but is not synced between devices. Deleting the app removes it.
Do I need the internet?
No. Purzel works completely offline. Only Game Center and sharing your result need a connection.
